Bonaire ReefCamTM Named Among World's Most Interesting WebCams
BONAIRE, N.A. - December 15, 2000 - The Bonaire ReefCam, the world's first permanent underwater coral reef "Web Camera" (WebCam) has been named as one of the world's most interesting WebCams for the year 2000 by EarthCam, the world's leading WebCam portal.
The Bonaire ReefCam, which can be viewed over the Internet at http://www.BonaireWebCams.com, was installed in the pristine reefs of the Caribbean island of Bonaire in March of 2000, and after a trial run was officially launched to the world in August. Since the official launch, the Bonaire WebCams Web site has had over 210,000 visitors, with 52,000 visitors and 3.75 million hits in November alone, making the Bonaire WebCams Web site one of the most popular Web sites in the Caribbean, due in great part to the Bonaire ReefCam, which shows live underwater images, updated every two minutes. The selection of the top 25 WebCams was made by a panel of judges which included executives from major media companies and celebrities. This year's judges include actress Cindy Margolis, Brittany Sparkles from Big Brother, the founder of E! Entertainment, as well as executives from CNN.com, ABC.com, Weather.com, WGBH Interactive and Discovery.com.
